Ever since my little girl was born, she has loved being read to. As she has grown that love of reading and books has only intensified! I first spotted the Kim Smith Pop Classics books over on instagram (on the lovely Sarah aka @spotofDisney account!) and knew immediately that my little girl would love them!

Why did we like them?

As soon as my little girl saw them she wanted to read them all immediately! The illustrations were so colourful and inviting. The stories were also really easy for her to follow.

Pop Classics Kim Smith Buffy Vampire Hunter

The Back to the future film was a bit confusing for me (as an adult!) so I was interested to see how this was explained in a short book aimed at 4 year olds. We were pleasantly surprised as it made the story very easy to follow without loosing the charm the original film had.

Out of the books above, all of them followed the films story apart from Buffy. I suppose it would be difficult to make a book out of just one episode! Instead it was a story about being afraid but being brave anyway. One thing my daughter really remembered about this book was the message at the front which read “for all the strong girls”. It’s completely stuck with my daughter now and she’s always saying “I’m a strong girl mummy – like Buffy”.

Karate Kid

I really enjoyed the books because it let me relive some nostalgia as well as introducing my daughter to come classic films I loved as a child.

I had never come across Kim Smith before but now we have I hope there are more classic films made into kids books in the future (I’m hoping for Jumanji, Batteries not included and Dirty Dancing!).
